Day 01 :

Pick-up from Johannesburg/Nelspruit and transfer to Kruger National Park.

Day 02 :

Kruger National Park

Depart camp at gate opening for a game drive, searching for leopards, lions, and other wildlife.
Stop at a camp restaurant for a hearty meal.
Continue game viewing before returning to camp for rest and relaxation.
Head out on another game drive until gate closing.
Enjoy dinner at the camp restaurant at 19:00.

Day 03 :

Kruger National Park

Depart before sunrise with luggage, capturing stunning sunrise photos and searching for predators on the move.

How do I get from Johannesburg (JNB) to the Kruger for the start of my safari?

Most of our US guests arrive at O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg. From there, you have two primary options:

The Nhongo Shuttle: We can arrange a comfortable, air-conditioned road transfer directly to the park (approx. 5–6 hours), allowing you to see the beautiful Mpumalanga highlands.
Domestic Flight: For more time in the bush, you can take a short “bush flight” from JNB to Skukuza (SZK) or Hoedspruit (HDS). If you choose this, let us know your flight number, and your Nhongo guide will be waiting at the arrivals terminal to whisk you straight into your first game drive.

Is the Kruger a malaria-risk area, and what meds do I need?

Yes, the Kruger National Park is located in a malaria-risk zone. We strongly recommend visiting a travel clinic in the US at least 4–6 weeks before departure. Most American travelers are prescribed Malarone (Atovaquone/Proguanil) or Doxycycline.

Pro Tip: In addition to meds, pack a repellent with at least 30% DEET and wear long sleeves/pants during “mosquito hour” at dawn and dusk.

Will my electronics work, and what should I pack for the weather?

South Africa uses Type M (three large round pins) and Type N plugs. Most US “universal” adapters don’t include the Type M plug, so we recommend buying a specific “South Africa Adapter” before you leave. Regarding clothes, the most common mistake US travelers make is underestimating the cold. Even in summer, early morning game drives in an open-sided vehicle are freezing due to the wind chill.

Pack Layers: Think “Onion Style.” Start with a heavy fleece or puffer jacket and a beanie for the 5:30 AM start, then peel down to a t-shirt as the African sun heats up by midday.

Is it safe to go on safari, and what is the "Open Vehicle" experience like?

Safety is our absolute priority. Our guides are highly trained professionals who understand animal behavior and maintaining “safe zones.” You will be in a custom-built, open-sided 4×4 vehicle. While it may feel “exposed” at first, the animals in the Kruger see the vehicle as a single, non-threatening object rather than a source of food.

The Golden Rule: As long as you remain seated and keep your arms inside the vehicle, you are perfectly safe. Your guide will provide a full safety briefing before you head out on your first afternoon drive.
