Top 6 Tips for Your First Safari Adventure
Pack Smart, Travel Light
The most common mistake for first-time visitors is underestimating the temperature swing. Even in the summer, pre-dawn game drives in an open vehicle are chilly. Pack a "windbreaker" or light jacket, a fleece, and a scarf. By 10:00 AM, the African sun is intense, and you’ll want to be down to a T-shirt and shorts. Stick to neutral colors to blend in and avoid attracting insects.
Manage Your Expectations
While the Kruger is world-famous for the Big Five (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino, and Buffalo), safari is not a zoo. Embrace the "Small Five" and the incredible birdlife too. In the heart of the Kruger, cell service can be spotty and Wi-Fi is often limited to specific areas like the main lodge or restaurant. Embrace the "Digital Detox."
